Update: RPD Arrests Man Accused Of Subway Robbery

Redding Police have made an arrest in Tuesday afternoon’s robbery of the Subway Sandwich Shop in the Target Shopping Center in East Redding. At around 5:30PM, a man police identify as 30-year-old Jimmy Lee Cates brandished a weapon, was given cash, and was seen fleeing on foot toward the Churn Creek/Dana Drive intersection. Redding Police were there within 3 minutes but they couldn’t find the robber. Surveillance photos were released and investigators were tipped off to the identity of Cates. He had two warrants, one for drugs and one for being a parolee at large. His parole is from a burglary conviction. At 12:30PM Wednesday officers found Cates off Churn Creek Road and, after a struggle, took him into custody. During an interview he reportedly confessed to the Subway robbery.
