Trinity County Wildfire Explodes To Over 5000 Acres

A fire that started near the Trinity County ghost town of Helena just after 5 O’clock Wednesday has grown quickly. The fire is burning on both sides of the Trinity River and both sides of Highway 299, which is closed for at least another day. Around 2000 people have been evacuated, including all residents from Helena to the Oregon Mountain Summit, and including all of Junction City and the Canyon Creeks Area. At last word the fire was 6,000 acres with zero containment. Trinity County Sheriff’s officials say multiple homes have been lost.  Most of the smoke and ash choking Redding Thursday is attributable to the Helena Fire.
