Stabbing At South City Park Leaves Man With Deep Laceration

A man was apparently wrongly accused by another man and attacked in South City Park in Downtown Redding Monday morning. 48-year-old Harry Williby was sitting in the park when a man he had never met approached carrying a large stick and a knife. He threw a box of cereal at Williby and as Williby stood up the man attacked him. As Williby raised his arm in defense he was struck by the stick or the knife, making a deep cut requiring six stitches. The attacker then ran away. About 4 hours later a Redding Police Officer found 31-year-old Guillermo Pena across the street near Safeway. He had the stick but not the knife. He reportedly believed that Williby had gone through his things that were left unattended at the park, though that apparently wasn’t so. He was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.
