Body Of Florida Man Found On Mount Shasta

A missing hiker was found dead on Mount Shasta over the weekend. On Friday a woman called Siskiyou County to report a missing man. She said she had last communicated by text message with 35-year-old Dwayne Hensley on August 22nd. The man from Cocoa, Florida told the woman he was climbing Mount Shasta. A deputy found Hensley’s car parked at Bunny Flat and a search began with help from the Forest Service and a CHP helicopter. Saturday afternoon the helicopter crew spotted a body in a ravine at around the 8,800 foot elevation. Forest Service rescue climbers recovered the man’s body, which appeared as if it had been there for some time after falling from a higher elevation. The sheriff’s office encourages people to educate themselves about the dangers of the mountain, and not to climb alone.
