Redding Police Chief Peter Hansen says that a lot of the crime and homeless problems that are affecting Redding can be directly attributed to changes in the criminal justice system, most notably AB-109 and Proposition 57. He wants to post the data on the RPD website showing the increase in crime since the passage of those measures. Then he wants the community to write letters to their elected officials in Sacramento asking for changes
At Tuesday nights meeting the Redding City Council approved the purchase of the Magnolia Park Downtown from the Shasta County Office of Education for $113,000. The city will now take over ownership and maintenance of the park and playground that otherwise may have been sold to private developers.
