Man Wanted For Attempted Murder Sought After Failing To Show Up In Court

Redding Police are asking for help in locating a man wanted for an attempted murder near Martin Luther King Park, and Secret Witness is offering a reward. At around 1:40am on April 22nd residents reported gunshots and arriving officers found 34-year-old Andre Alexander Avant slumped over the wheel of a car on Eugenia Avenue. He had been shot multiple times, in his head, neck, and arm. He was transported up the hill to Mercy Hospital and was not expected to survive, but he did. An investigation led to dozens of witnesses and many leads and it was learned that 3 days before the shooting, Avant was robbed. At 3:30 the afternoon of April 19th Avant apparently had a meeting in his car in the Win-River parking lot with 23-year-old Mark Anthony Hill and 20-year-old Erik Santiago. Police say Santiago had a gun and he and Hill robbed Avant of several items. Arrest warrants were issued for the pair for armed robbery and Hill was arrested at the probation office on May 8th. He bailed out of jail the next day. On May 18th Santiago was arrested by the CHP near Yreka and Redding Police brought him back to Shasta County. He’s been in jail ever since. After those arrests investigators gathered enough evidence to file attempted murder charges. Santiago is awaiting a jury trial but Hill failed to appear in court in June and has been wanted ever since. Mark Hill is a 23-year-old African-American man, 5’7″ and 230 pounds. A reward of $2,500 is available for anonymous tips at 243-2319 or scsecretwitness.com.
