Man Accused Of Molesting 12-Year-Old Girl

A Redding man will be arraigned Thursday for allegedly carrying on a sexual relationship with a child 20 years younger than him. At 3 O’clock Saturday morning a mother in the City of Shasta Lake reported that her 12-year-old daughter had run away. The girl came home later but the mother re-contacted Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies after finding messages on the girl’s cell phone that led her to suspect an inappropriate relationship with 32-year-old Kao Ching Saetern. He’s apparently acquainted with a member of the family. On Monday, through investigation and interviews, detectives determined the mother’s suspicions to be true. Tuesday detectives were getting ready to go after Saetern when the 12-year-old’s mother called to report she had again run away from home. She quickly found her daughter on Lake Boulevard. Tuesday afternoon detectives went to Saetern’s home on Deodar Way near the intersection of Lake Boulevard and Keswick Dam Road. They eventually found him hiding behind a trailer in the backyard after he had apparently fled out his bedroom window when he saw law enforcement arrive. Saetern is already on probation for battery on a spouse. He was booked into jail on 9 counts of various child molestation charges. The sheriff’s office urges parents to check their children’s electronic devices to be sure they’re not being preyed upon by sexual predators.
