Helena Fire Containment Remains At 55%

Fire crews in Trinity County still trying to ensure the safety of homes in the Helena Fire zone. Many residents are still evacuated as burning material is still rolling down some of the steep slopes. The 17,600 acre Helena Fire is being managed along with the 3500 acre Fork Fire, which is to the north in the Trinity Alps Wilderness. Overall containment of the two fires is 55%.  A spill of ash and burn debris in the Canyon Creek area Tuesday has prompted a warning for returning evacuees to check their water. One-way piloted traffic control continues on Highway 299, with delays of about a half hour.
