Pickup Driver Arrested For Felony DUI In Trinity County

Major injuries resulted from a crash in a remote area of Trinity County on Friday afternoon. Just before 4 O’clock 27-year-old Scott Bernard was driving a Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck on Ruth Zenia Road about 5 miles south of Van Duzen Road. He was going about 25 miles an hour as he approached a blind curve. Coming the other direction was a Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by 24-year-old Harley Carrington. The CHP says Carrington intentionally took a chance and crossed the double yellow lines in order to cut the corner, but he lost the gamble and ran head-on into the Dodge truck. Carrington sustained minor injuries and was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. He was charged with a felony because his two passengers were hurt. 27-year-old Sarrie Stillwell was flown to Mercy Hospital in Redding with major injuries, while 22-year-old Austin Wilson suffered moderate injuries. Neither passenger was wearing a seatbelt. Bernard was not injured.
