REU Solar Rebates Program Ending In October

Redding Electric Utility has lifted a moratorium on new solar installations. According to REU, some areas of the power grid had reached the maximum number of solar systems that could be installed while still providing reliable electricity, so a moratorium was issued on new installations. Engineers say technology is now available to keep the solar units on or have them shut down under certain power conditions. Since 2007 REU says about 9 Million Dollars in solar rebates have been provided to about 800 customers. The city says that 8.1 megawatts of solar energy has been generated. The program will be ending at the end of October and customers who want to get rebates for solar installations need to get a voucher by October 31st. Call 339-7200 or visit REU on Avtech Parkway for more information.
