Teen Arrested After High Speed Chase

A 16-year-old juvenile led Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies on a high speed chase overnight that ended with the driver losing control of the vehicle on Pine Street where he crashed into a cement curb, a fire hydrant, and a street light, causing damage to power lines in the area. It began just after 1:30AM Friday morning when a deputy patrolling the area near Win River Casino noticed a 2017 Chevy sedan being driven with no headlights, creating a hazard to the public. A traffic stop was attempted at Highway 273 at Girvan, but the vehicle sped away at speeds in excess of 100 mph driving through red lights and eventually ending with the crash on Pine Street, where the juvenile and a 29-year-old passenger identified as Jesse Rodriguez of Redding both fled the scene on foot. With help from the CHP and the RPD a perimeter was established and the juvenile who is not being named, was found hiding in the bushes of a nearby business. K-9 “Hondo” was used to locate Rodriguez, who was found hiding inside of a camper shell at West Coast Auto Sales. He was eventually taken into custody and transported to Shasta Regional for dog bites before being taken to jail. The juvenile was also taken for medical clearance before he was transported to jail on charges of evading a peace officer, disregard to public safety, and hit and run with property damage.
