Gusting Winds Fuel Buck Fire

Crews battling the Buck Fire southwest of Redding reported moderate fire activity Monday. A red flag fire watch is in effect and gusting north winds fueled fire activity. The fire is burning in the Shasta Trinity National Forest near Black Rock Mountain. The fire was sparked by lightning on September 12th and has burned 5200 acres. Crews have achieved 29% containment. Smoke from the fire could be seen from Redding Monday. Meantime the Helena Fire in Trinity County is 85% contained at just over 2100 acres. Highway 299 is open with one way controlled traffic.
