Young Girl Found At Bottom Of Lake Shasta Remains In Critical Condition

A three year old girl remained in critical condition Monday night at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento after her family found her in 70 feet of water at Lake Shasta on Saturday evening. The child’s family was enjoying a houseboat vacation on the lake, and had just finished dinner and were getting their children ready for bed when they noticed she was missing. Her toothbrush was found floating near the boat according to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office. Mark Benzinger of Kneeland in Humboldt County obtained some SCUBA gear from a neighboring boat and began to search underwater for the girl. After several minutes he found her at the bottom of the lake. She was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, before being transferred to UC Davis for treatment. As of Monday night her condition is being reported as critical.
