Buck Fire Grows To 6200 Acres

A fire in the Yolla Bolly Wilderness is becoming more visible as it grows. Smoke from the Buck Fire can be seen to the southwest of Redding. It’s burning heavy timber near Black Rock Mountain after being sparked by lightning on September 12th.  It’s now 6200 acres with 29% containment. The Helena Fire in Trinity County is 85% contained after burning 21,500 acres, 72 homes and 61 outbuildings. As fire crews continue to work in the Helena Fire zone in Trinity County, daytime traffic on Highway 299 is restricted to just a few open times. Continuous one-way traffic control is being done with pilot cars overnight from 6PM to 7:45AM. However no traffic is being allowed through during the day other than three key times: 9AM, Noon and 3PM. Drivers are asked to arrive in line no sooner than 15 minutes before each of those times.
