Father Sentenced To 13 Years For Death Of Infant

Just over 6 months ago Carl Stivason was a free man, a father and husband living in Redding. The 31-year-old man will now spend the next decade behind bars for passing out and causing the death of his baby, who died as he slept. On March 13th Stivason was at his C Street home with his 4-month-old baby girl and her 2-year-old brother while his wife was at work. Stivason was on drugs, causing him to pass out while sitting in a recliner with the baby girl in his arms. The infant slipped down and became wedged between Stivason’s body and a chair cushion, unable to breathe. That’s how his wife found them when she got home. Earlier this month Stivason pleaded no contest to charges including child abuse. On Wednesday he was sentenced to 13 years in prison, 85% of which he must serve before being eligible for parole.
