Several Cited During Homeless Camp Sweep In Shasta Lake

Responding to complaints by Shasta Lake City residents, the Sheriff’s Office has removed a number of homeless camps on the west side of town. During the last month deputies have located 8 camps in the wooded area south of the Sierra Pacific Mill. Seven people have been given trespassing citations and two people have been arrested on outstanding warrants. Several citations were issued for animal code violations as well. The Sheriff’s Office says that due to the enforcement actions all the homeless camps were vacated by the time a big cleanup operation was done on Saturday. About 35 volunteers took part from Shasta Support Services, the Sheriff’s Office, Redding Police and Shasta Lake City employees. Three large dump trailers were filled with garbage from the campsites. Illegal camping can be reported to the Sheriff’s Office Shasta Lake Station at 245-6096.
