Deputies Help Rescue Missing Dogs

A couple of old dogs are back home again, thanks to help from the sheriff’s office and animal control. On Monday a woman called 9-1-1 to report her two elderly dogs had gotten lost last Wednesday while she was hiking in the Horsetown Area along Clear Creek. She had made an appeal for help on social media and a kayaker responded, saying he had found her Golden Retriever “Lioness” stuck in some boulders. Volunteers helped retrieve the dog, and they could hear the other dog, a large 14-year-old Husky-type dog named “Paq”, but they couldn’t locate him. That’s when the owner turned to the sheriff’s office. Animal Regulation Officer Kelly Graeff and OES Sergeant Rob Sandbloom met the woman at the location and hiked with her to a bend in the creek where the dog had been heard. They eventually spotted Paq, who started howling when he saw his owner. He was at the bottom of a steep gulch and, since it was almost dark by then, they decided to wait until daylight. Tuesday morning, with great effort, the very large old dog was helped up the mountainside to safety. The owner and the dogs were extremely grateful.
