Jury Selection Begins For Man Accused Of Double Murder

Trial is beginning in Tehama County for a man accused of murdering his ex-wife and her father in Cottonwood 2 years ago. In July of 2015 the gated community of Lake California on the south side of Cottonwood was rocked by the shooting. A heated verbal argument was underway at the Little Country Store when 29-year-old Kimberlee Anne Thomas called 911 to report that her ex-husband, 34-year-old John Noonkester, had punched her father, 53-year-old Keith Vernon Thomas. The line disconnected, but moments later multiple 9-1-1 callers reported shots fired. Noonkester had allegedly used a rifle to kill Keith Thomas before turning the gun on his ex-wife. Noonkester started to drive away but was stopped by a man who blocked his exit with a pickup. Tehama County Sheriff’s Deputies found Kimberlee in the parking lot and her father in the doorway of the store. Another victim, 25-year-old Anthony Baugher, was apparently just an innocent passerby. He had run away after being shot in the back. He was lucky as the bullet went straight through without hitting anything vital and he was treated and released at a hospital. Noonkester is charged with two counts of first degree murder and one count of attempted murder. Jury selection began Tuesday.
