Red Bluff Man Doubles Prison Sentence With Second Guard Assault

A 37-year-old Red Bluff man who has already been sentenced to prison for head-butting a jail guard has been sentenced for another assault on a guard. Averille Leon Willis was arrested by Red Bluff Police last November after they found him standing in the middle of the road, loud, belligerent and intoxicated. While being booked into Tehama County Jail a deputy was talking to him when Willis, who is 6’6″ and 350 pounds, suddenly head-butted the deputy in the face. For that he was sentenced last month to 4 years in state prison. While awaiting transport to prison Willis was still staying at the Tehama County Jail. One day he was watching television in the day room when it was lock down time and Willis was told by a guard that he would have to return to his cell. He was defiant but eventually agreed and was walking into a hallway when he punched the guard in the throat. He’s been sentenced to an additional 4 years in prison.
