Human Case Of West Nile Reported In Tehama County

A Tehama County resident has contracted West Nile Wirus, and the mosquito-borne disease has claimed the life of a horse. The person is apparently recovering.  The horse, which had not been vaccinated, was euthanized. Horses are the only species for which a vaccine exists. People almost always recover from West Nile and most never even show symptoms. With horses, one in three cases ends with death. Everyone can help fight West Nile virus by eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed.
