Fire Burns 6 Acres Despite Wet Weather

A vegetation fire broke out east of Anderson off Dersch Road Thursday night. Cal-Fire and other agencies responded just after 8 O’clock to Dersch and Pork Chop Lane, which is west of the turnoff to Millville Plains Road. Mutual aid was requested from Redding Fire. Firefighters had to battle the flames in winds up to 30 miles an hour, but they managed to stop the forward progress at around 6.5 acres. One structure was also destroyed, but it’s known if it was a residence. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Rain Thursday night may have seemed like a lot in some areas but the Weather Service says only a total of about a third of an inch fell. In terms of fire season, that’s nothing more than a tease. Redding Fire Chief Gerry Gray said Thursday that with a heat wave coming in a few days, the moisture from the rainstorm will be completely gone before the weekend is over.
