Jury Convicts Man For Beating Man With Metal Pipe

An Anderson man has been found guilty of trying to ambush a Redding man in his garden. 21-year-old Phillip Ault approached the victim as he was bent over doing some gardening in his yard. Ault and the man had never met before that day but Ault snuck up on him and tried to hit him in the head with a metal pipe. Fortunately Ault was not as stealthy as he thought and the man ducked out of the way and confronted Ault. The victim started yelling for help as Ault fled. Redding Police were called as the victim and another man followed Ault and told officers where he was. Shortly before police got there, Ault threw away the pipe. He was found to be under the influence of Methamphetamine. Wednesday Ault’s jury trial concluded with guilty verdicts for assault with a deadly weapon and concealing evidence. Ault had been granted probation for an incident in March of 2015 when he followed a woman from the Tower Mart in Anderson to her Knobcone Avenue home. When he was told to leave he punched her in the face and she fled to a neighbor’s house for protection. The neighbors let the woman in and locked Ault out. He then started yelling that the home was his and that it was his mother’s mansion. When he threw a brick through the front window and started climbing inside, the man who lived there stabbed him in the arm with a knife. Ault was then cornered in the front yard by other concerned neighbors, who held him there until officers arrived. He had to be tasered twice before being taken into custody. Ault’s sentencing is pending.
