3 Escape Injury After Plane Crashes At Redding Airport

A small airplane made a crash landing after overshooting the runway at Redding Municipal Airport Thursday morning. At around 9:30PM the tower received a mayday from the plane, containing a flight instructor and two other people, reporting engine problems. When it landed the single-engine Cessna was not running at all. It was set down just north of the Forest Service runway, which is north of the civilian tarmac at Redding Municipal Airport. As it touched down it narrowly missed colliding with a Cal-Fire tactical plane that was parked at the fire airbase. It then continued through a field of tall grass before being stopped by a chain link fence. Nobody was injured. The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
