The big Republican tax reform bill will spend weeks being amended and modified in the House Ways and Means Committee, of which Northstate Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a member. He says he likes the bill but welcomes suggestions from voters in his district on how to improve the bill. Some major selling points are the raising of the child credit $1000 to $1600 and the doubling of the standard deduction. It also slashes the corporate tax rate from 35% to 20%. Its authors say that’ll motivate big companies to hire people while critics say that’s a baseless claim because of the lack of hiring incentives. For anyone who wants to make suggestions, the number at LaMalfa’s Redding office is 223-5897. All his contact info is at lamalfa.house.gov.
