Both Drivers Arrested After Hit-And-Run In Trinity County

A hit-and-run crash in Trinity County Wednesday morning resulted in the arrests of both drivers. Just before 8AM the CHP was called to Dutch Creek Road just south of Highway 299 in the Junction City area. William “Buster” Cates had allegedly used his Chevy pickup to rear-end a Subaru driven by Bobby Leighton. After ramming the Subaru, Cates apparently fled but was stopped by CHP Officers a couple of hours later as he was driving on Highway 299 near Weaverville. He was booked into jail for battery and assault with a deadly weapon.  Officers were interviewing Leighton as he was being treated for his injuries at Trinity Hospital when dispatchers informed the officers that Leighton had an outstanding arrest warrant for criminal threats and other charges. After his medical treatment he, too , was booked into jail.
