Drunk drivers beware. The last two weeks of the year the Redding Police Department will declare an all out blitz on DUI offenders. Last year 37,461 people nationwide were killed in vehicle crashes and drunk drivers were involved in 28% of them. During an 18 day crackdown that begins on the 15th, the RPD will use state grant funding to conduct frequent checkpoints and saturation patrols to catch drunks before they can do damage. People attending holiday parties are warned to plan ahead because officers will be on extra alert for impaired drivers and there will be no tolerance. A free app for smart phones called “DDVIP” will help locate bars and restaurants that offer incentives for sober designated drivers.
