REU Eliminates A Number Of Fees

When a family is in dire straits to the degree that they’re unable to pay their power bill, another $50 to reconnect their electric service might just break the bank, but that’s a cost that Redding Electric Utility can easily absorb. Therefore, that and some other fees have been eliminated. The fee structure was updated in 2006 and 2011 and has not been changed until now. The city council approved a change Tuesday night. It’s been determined that it’s not a significant cost burden to the utility, so the $50 reconnect fee is no more, as well as the $89 reconnect fee after 4 O’clock. Also eliminated are the $25 fee to transfer service from one address to another, and the $89 after 4 O’clock transfer fee. Also, the $50 new customer connection fee is now only in effect if the request is made after 11AM of the day of connection. REU says the fee elimination is in the best interest of the community and reduces the financial burden on our lower income neighbors.
