Crews Remove 3 Tons Of Garbage Near Caldwell Park

An estimated five to 6000 pounds of trash including mattresses, tents, empty beer bottles, used syringes and other stinky items were removed from a homeless camp in the River Park Highlands north of Caldwell Park on Tuesday. Redding Police along with code enforcement officers and volunteers from the Good News Rescue Mission and an inmate work crew removed the debris. Seven occupants were asked to leave last month, but two were still there and were cited for illegal camping and for having an unattended campfire.  Evidence at the scene suggested that others were also still camping there, but they were not present at the time. It took 3 trucks to clean up the garbage.
