Crab Season Set To Begin Along Northern Coast

Fresh Crab from the North Coast may soon be on the way. Although Crab has been available from San Francisco, the North Coast Crab has been off limits for the last six weeks, because of the presence of Domoic Acid.  Beginning on Monday fisherman can begin catching Dungeness Crab off the coast of Mendicino, Humboldt and Del Norte Counties, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Domoic Acid occurs in Crabs after ingesting blooms of toxic algae.
