3 Arrested For 1993 Murder After Man Confesses To Involvement

Three people, including a brother and sister, have been arrested for a murder that occurred in 1993 after one of the suspects apparently wanted to clear his conscious, according to Redding Police. On Tuesday police chief Roger Moore was contacted by the staff at KRCR after 45-year-old Brian Hawkins of Shingletown made a statement to the TV station that he wanted to speak to law enforcement regarding his involvement in the murder of 19-year-old Frank McCalister. McCalister’s body was found near Grace and Nora Lakes in 1994 and his death was ruled a homicide. No suspects had been charged and the investigation had gone cold. Tuesday afternoon Hawkins met with investigators from both Redding Police and the Sheriff’s Office. He gave a statement that in May of 1993 he, Curtis Culver, and Shanna Culver lured McCalister to the Shingletown area to rob him of his money that he was apparently going to use to buy Meth. Once they were in the woods of Shasta County, Curtis Culver and Brian Hawkins stabbed the victim to death and left his body. The trio than took McCalister’s money and drove his car back to Redding and abandoned it at the Costco parking lot. The victims car was eventually found and police became suspicious because a large amount of blood was found in the vehicle. After his family reported him missing, investigators learned that three were the last known people to have seen McCalister, but they denied any involvement and did not provide any information about his whereabouts. Wednesday Curtis and Shanna Culver, were contacted by authorities in Red Bluff and were questioned regarding the new evidence against them. Both were booked into the Shasta County Jail.
