RPD: Drunk Driver Crashes Into Marked Patrol Vehicle

A Bella Vista man pulled in front of the wrong vehicle Friday night, according to Redding Police. 29-year-old Richard Dodd was driving a Subaru Outback eastbound on Placer Street when he made a left turn onto Pine Street directly in front of a Chevy Tahoe, causing the two vehicles to collide. The Tahoe was a fully marked Shasta County Sheriff’s vehicle driven by Deputy Brian Sancibrian. He had been transporting a prisoner from Shasta Regional Medical Center to the jail. A witness told police that after Dodd stopped, he took something from his car and stashed it in the bushes nearby. Officers say it turned out to be a pouch containing concentrated cannabis and a special pipe for smoking it. Dodd allegedly admitted that he had been drinking and smoking concentrated cannabis earlier in the evening. Dodd was booked into jail for DUI and several other charges, including a special charge for being under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs. Dodd, Deputy Sancibrian and the prisoner were all uninjured in the crash.
