CHP: Mother Takes Eyes Off Road Before Crashing Into Bridge

A mother was arrested for DUI after crashing her car into a bridge railing in Trinity County, according to the CHP. Just after 3PM Tuesday, the CHP received reports that a vehicle was swerving across both lanes of Highway 299 near the Trinity River Bridge in Douglas City. Witnesses said the 2000 Toyota had nearly crashed head-on into a pickup. After crashing into the bridge railing, 20-year-old Britni Eddy told officers that her 14-month old baby had been crying. She took her eyes off the road and her vehicle struck the bridge. The baby was not injured. As the officer was investigating he determined that Eddy had recently taken prescription medication and she was arrested for driving under the influence. The baby was released to family members.
