Redding is becoming a more bicycle friendly town all the time, with recent traffic modifications and an extensive trail system that’s known all over the western states. Unfortunately that’s not enough to save Redding’s oldest bicycle shop. Village Cycle is set to close its doors soon after 46 years in business at the same Bechelli Lane location. Village Cycle has been a full-service bicycle sales and repair shop since 1972, but next month it’ll close forever. Blame for the failure is placed on big box stores and online retailers, where bikes and parts can be acquired for prices a local shop just can’t match.
