Brent Weaver Not Seeking Re-Election To City Council

Brent Weaver has had enough of city government leadership. The former Redding mayor has announced that he will not seek re-election to the Redding City Council. His term expires this year. He made the announcement Monday on Twitter, saying he had talked it over with his wife and kids. He added that he looks forward to other opportunities to engage with the community, saying that he loves building and the downtown area and looks forward to returning to his roots. Weaver owns Weaver Lumber and True Value Hardware, located at the former Moss Lumber site on Eastside Road in South Redding. Weaver was first elected to the council in 2014 and has been known to be a supporter of business interests and outdoor recreation. There will be three seats available this year, as Kristen Schreder and Francie Sullivan plan to run for re-election. They were the targets of a failed recall petition last year. Interested candidates include Dutch Bros franchise owner Erin Resner and Shasta College Professor James Crockett.
