Coroner ID’s Man Found Dead In Overturned Vehicle

It’s still not known why a driver left Highway 44 and landed his car upside-down in a pond between Palo Cedro and Redding. The discovery was made last Friday morning. The Shasta County Coroner’s Office has now released the name of the deceased driver. He was 47-year-old Timothy Lee Mills of Manton, and he was the only person in the car. He was driving a Chrysler Concorde registered out of Florence, Oregon. The car was found mostly submerged in a pond south of Highway 44 and was visible from Gilbert Drive. The CHP said there were no signs of swerving or braking or skid marks- just a couple of tracks coming from the eastbound lane, through the grass and down the embankment. The coroner’s office has scheduled a post-mortem exam to try and determine if mills may have suffered a medical condition or simply fell asleep.
