Teen Captured After Fleeing From Crash In East Redding

After crashing a stolen car in East Redding, a teenager was caught running away, but not before ditching a gun, which police are still looking for Tuesday afternoon. The big Nissan SUV was on Mission De Oro Drive approaching the top of the hill near AAA when it rolled over onto its side. The driver, a 17-year-old male, climbed out and ran from the scene, heading toward the east, according to Redding Police Sergeant Danny Smetak. Witnesses saw a gun fall from the boy’s pants and he turned around and picked it up before he continued running. With the help of a CHP helicopter, the boy was caught near the intersection of Canby and Browning. By then, he no longer was in possession of a gun. The search for the weapon continues.
