AB 109 Parolee Sentenced To 15 Years

A Shasta County judge has given a lengthy prison sentence to a man who committed multiple crimes while on Post Release Community Supervision. 28-year-old Michael Steele was arrested in December following a high speed chase. He led Redding Police on a pursuit in a stolen Toyota Scion from near Highway 273 and Canyon Road. He fled south to Ox Yoke Road and then north on Airport Road. Officers stopped chasing the car out of concern for the safety of other drivers. A CHP helicopter kept tracking the car from above as it turned into a residential neighborhood in the Knighton Road area. Steele took off on foot, so a ground search began with help from Anderson Police and Dozer, the RPD K9. Steele was found underneath a trailer in someone’s backyard. He wouldn’t come out so Dozer was sent under the trailer to drag him out. Steele was treated for dog bites before going to jail.  Since his release from prison, Steele had already been arrested three times in stolen cars.  Tuesday he entered guilty pleas on five separate cases and was sentenced to 15 years 4 months in state prison.
