Anderson Man Sentenced To 22 Years In Prison

An Anderson man will be behind bars for a very long time for crimes he committed in Happy Valley last Summer. 21-year-old Carlos Boykin was upset about his girlfriend and their brand new baby spending time with Gregory Prado. The two men had a confrontation at Prado’s home on Strawberry Lane, during which Boykin said he would return with a gun. He fulfilled that promise at around Midnight on August 20th. Boykin drove to the house and walked inside with a semiautomatic handgun in his hand to confront Prado, who was sitting with Boykin’s girlfriend and Boykin’s one-month-old daughter. Boykin shot Prado, hitting him four times, then walked out and drove away. On another occasion, Boykin was in the Anderson area when someone merely walked past him and, with no provocation, Boykin pulled a knife out and threatened the victim to keep him from contacting police. Detectives staked out Boykin’s home on Aster Street in Anderson until they determined he was inside and took him into custody, charging him with attempted murder. Boykin took a plea deal from the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office and entered guilty pleas for assault with a gun and first degree burglary, with enhancements. In the second case Boykin pled guilty to dissuading a witness. Tuesday he was sentenced to 22 years in state prison, and he must serve at least 85% of that before he’s eligible for parole.
