Man Struck And Killed By Vehicle On Highway 273

A pedestrian was killed while trying to cross Highway 273 in South Redding Tuesday night. At around 7:30PM the man was crossing from the west to the east just north of Branstetter Way. He was wearing all black clothing and there’s very little light on that stretch of the highway. A 2003 Hyundai Elantra came along northbound and the driver didn’t see the pedestrian in time. The walker was struck and flew over the top of the car. When Redding Police arrived they attempted CPR but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers say the driver was absolutely sober. The coroners office will release the man’s name after family is notified. An officer at the scene told us he appeared to be a Hispanic man in his 30’s.
