Passenger In Big Rig Killed In Suspected DUI Crash Near Vina

A passenger in a big rig was killed in a crash near Vina in Tehama County early Saturday morning. At around 5AM a tractor trailer was northbound on Highway 99 north of Vina Road with Miguel Ullan of Florida at the wheel and an unidentified 50-year-old man also from Florida as a passenger. 24-year-old Adnan Mubarak of Proberta approached from behind at a high rate of speed driving a 2000 Honda Civic. As he passed the big rig, Mubarak lost control of the Honda and the right side of the car came into contact with the left front wheel of the truck. The Honda spun out and came to a stop facing the other way, with Mubarak uninjured. However, Ullan lost control of the truck and veered off the roadway and tipped over onto it’s left side. The trailer became disconnected but the truck continued sliding through the grass until it was stopped by an Oak Tree. Ullan suffered major internal injuries and was flown to Enloe Hospital in Chico. His partner, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was killed. The CHP determined that Mubarak was drunk and he was arrested for felony DUI.
