Deputies Seize Drugs and Stolen Guns

A small car stopped in Happy Valley was carrying a lot of guns and drugs, according to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office. On Saturday, the Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force asked for deputies to help them by stopping a suspicious car. Deputies pulled over the 2003 Toyota Corolla on Cloverdale Road west of Oak Street. The driver was 21-year-old Naomi Zermeno of Vallejo. 22-year-old William Hawkyard of Loomis was the passenger. Jax the K9 took a sniff around the outside of the car and a signal to his deputy handler prompted a search. The guns allegedly found in the car were all loaded: a stolen Ruger Mini-30 assault rifle, a stolen Mossberg 930 shotgun, a Benelli Nova shotgun, and a Taurus revolver. Deputies also reported finding more than 14 ounces of methamphetamine, 2 pounds of marijuana, 855 Xanax tablets, 4 digital scales and a thousand dollars. Hawkyard has a long list of prior felony arrests. He and Zermeno were both booked into jail.
