Park Service Continues Prescribed Burn Near Whisketown

More smoke will be seen to the west of Redding Tuesday from a controlled burn project in the Centerville area. The Buck Project is being conducted by the National Park Service at the eastern edge of Whiskeytown Park where it borders the BLM’s Swasey Recreation Area and private property. The primary goal is to create an effective fuel break and protect homes. It’ll also help restore natural landscapes. The plan this week is to burn 220 acres of the 757 acre project. Wetter and cooler weather is expected toward the end of the week as the burning wraps up. Smoke was very visible from the Redding area Monday and fire managers say they’ll burn more Tuesday.
