County Makes Agreement To Add 60 Beds To Jail

Additional beds will be added to the Shasta County Jail. County officials announced Tuesday that an agreement has been reached with the state allowing for the extra capacity. The architectural firm Nichols, Melburg and Rosetto will get started on a design to find space for 60 additional beds. Showers will need to be added as well. It’s hoped that the construction will be complete by the end of the year. Jail overcrowding has become a major sticking point with local government, as non-violent criminals are frequently released immediately after the booking process.
