Sheriff’s K9 Uncovers 2 Pounds Of Meth Near Whiskeytown Lake

A Trinity County man was busted with a lot of drugs and money near Whiskeytown Lake, according to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office. At 2:30PM Wednesday afternoon, 46-year-old Francis Desmond of Weaverville was pulled over in a traffic stop on Highway 299 just west of the Whiskeytown Visitor’s Center. It was discovered that he was driving on a suspended license. Thor the Sheriff’s K9 was taken for a walk around the vehicle for a “free air sniff”, and he alerted to the smell of drugs. A search was done and deputies allegedly found a bag on the floorboard behind the driver’s seat containing 2 Pounds of Methamphetamine and $1500 cash. Desmond was booked into jail.
