A car went up in flames on Highway 44 Friday afternoon. At 3:40PM a Dodge Avenger rear-ended a Mitsubishi Montero SUV on Eastbound Highway 44 a little west of the Airport Road exit. The car quickly caught fire and was soon completely engulfed in flames. The woman driving the Dodge was able to get away in time, though she had a slight injury to her wrist. Highway 44 traffic was heavily impacted and backed up west of Shasta View. Some witnesses reported to the CHP that the Dodge was being driven fast and erratically prior to the crash.
