Update: Driver Killed In Crash On Highway 299 Identified

The Shasta County Coroner’s Office has identified the man that was killed in a crash near Whiskeytown Tuesday night. At 6:40PM, a 1999 Chevrolet sedan was traveling at high speed eastbound on Highway 299. After passing the Whiskeytown Visitors Center and starting down the hill, 36-year-old Kyle Robert Miller of Anderson lost traction and the car slid back and forth for a while as he tried to regain control. The car slid off the north edge of the road and overturned as it tumbled about 50 feet through some small trees. CHP Officer Rick Bennett says there doesn’t appear to have been a tire blowout. The CHP says high speed was mostly to blame, and alcohol may have been a factor as well. There were 4 people in the car, all of them from Anderson. 18-year-old Brandan Depoister and two 17-year-olds, a boy and a girl, all were transported to Mercy Medical Center with lacerations.
