Wrong Way Driver Causes Major Injury Crash In Red Bluff

Two people suffered major injuries in a head-on crash on Interstate Five in the Red Bluff area Saturday afternoon. People started calling 9-1-1 at around 3:45PM, saying a southbound Toyota van was going about 50 miles an hour and weaving into other vehicles’ lanes, cutting them off. Near South Main Street the van, driven by 78-year-old Edward Sanders of Corning, veered across the center divide and into the northbound side of the freeway. After about a half mile on the wrong side, the van ran head on into a Honda Civic driven by 26-year-old Manuel Delapuente of Red Bluff. Both drivers were transported to hospitals with major injuries. The CHP is investigating whether a medical condition, drugs, or alcohol were affecting Sanders ability to drive.
