Police Say Phoned Bomb Threat Was A Hoax

A bomb threat prompted the evacuation of the Wal-Mart in Anderson. At around 4 O’clock Tuesday afternoon management of the store got a call from a man who said there was a bomb inside the store and that it would blow up. Anderson Police and fire departments responded and, after some discussion, it was decided that the threat should be taken seriously. All customers and employees were evacuated from the Wal-Mart and surrounding businesses off of Rhonda Road. Police officers and store management checked through the store and found nothing suspicious, so the incident was declared a hoax and everyone was allowed back inside. The caller apparently sounded like a younger male, possibly a teenager. He would not provide any information on the type of device or the reason he would want to plant a bomb. Police will attempt to trace the call through phone records.
