Skateboarder Strikes Vehicle On Placer Street

A young skateboarder was seriously hurt when he crashed into a car while barreling down a hill in Redding Sunday afternoon. A little after 5 O’clock, 15-year-old Michael Janda was riding down Placer Street from East Street down the steep hill toward Continental Street. Meanwhile, 30-year-old Sarah Allpress was driving a Pontiac Grand Am northbound on Continental. She had a green light as she entered the intersection with Placer, but did not see the skateboarder speeding toward her. Janda Broadsided the Pontiac and fell to the ground. He was not wearing a helmet and suffered major injuries. He was transported to Mercy Medical Center. Allpress was not injured. Redding Police say drugs or alcohol were not a factor.
