Voters Will Decide On Pot Tax, Council Approves East Redding Mini-Mart

The Redding City Council has voted to put a measure on the ballot in November, asking voters to approve a tax on cannabis businesses. A simple majority is all that would be needed to pass the measure. It would tax at a rate of $25 per square foot of cultivation area and up to 10 percent of gross receipts for other types of cannabis businesses. Of course Redding has no dispensaries at the moment. Although 18 applicants have paid a Five Hundred Dollar fee so far none have been approved. The city will cap the number at 10.

Following an appeal from the Planning Commission and to the dismay of many neighbors who spoke against the project, the council gave approval for an AM/PM Mini-Mart at the corner of Shasta View and Goodwater Avenue.
